"This American Life" retracts show about Apple's Chinese supplier's working conditions.

There's a long tradition of fictionalizing the facts to make for a clearer story. The Jungle was a novel, for instance. But it needs to be clear that such things are fictionalized. Mr. Daisey may be making valid points about working conditions in high-tech factories in China, and his show may have a lot of impact, but he failed to inform TAL of the fictionalizations when they initially approached him for this story, and he actively impeded their fact-checking efforts.

I applaud Ira Glass and TAL for being as up-front about the situation as they are, and taking the public responsibility for correcting it. The buck may stop with them, but I don't think Mr. Daisey should be off the hook here.
