I wrote a complaining email to my credit union. It seems I've been charged a $25 overdraft fee because my debit card allowed me to charge $0.74 more than I actually had in the bank without declining the transaction. Hopefully, they will make it right, and waive the overdraft fee.

Well, this is pretty common practice, and quite often the desired behavior -- that way, you don't get bounced checks and the like. It's also a sign that they consider you a good enough credit risk that they'll let you go over a bit.

When I bounce a check (not a debit card transaction) they charge me an overdraft fee and return the check to the sender. They don't cut me any slack, unfortunately.

One of my financial goals is to simply keep this from happening int he future.
